Dr. Richmon is Team Lead for the Head and Neck Mission to the West Africa Institute for Special Surgery (WAISS) in Accra, Ghana, through Face the Future Foundation.

Face the Future Foundation

Face the Future Foundation provides lifesaving and life-changing reconstructive surgery for patients in developing and war-torn countries who have complex head and neck conditions. Founded in 1996 by Dr. Peter Adamson of Toronto, it has since carried out more than 65 missions to Ukraine, Africa, and Asia. Its surgeons, nurses, and other team members volunteer their time, and each mission also trains local surgeons and nurses so that the care continues after the team leaves. Dr. Richmon serves on the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

The head and neck mission to Ghana

Face the Future partnered with WAISS in Accra and held its first mission there in 2025. The mission focuses on major head and neck cancer, trauma, and congenital conditions in patients of all ages, including complex reconstruction with free tissue transfer. Alongside the operations, the team works with WAISS to teach surgeons and nurses, and WAISS plans to extend that surgical and nursing education to health care professionals throughout Africa.
